Character

It is a dog of infinite sweetness: in general he gets along with all animals, he is always sociable, he loves to play and, after moments of leisure, he loves spending the days lazing on the sofa.

This aspect highlights his Tibetan origins, which traditionally see him spend his days in imperial palaces. He loves peace and quiet, so he adapts well to families with sensitive and respectful children, as well as to single people.

The ideal owner

Very patient, both in establishing proper training from puppyhood and in grooming, for the care of its long coat, which requires long and careful attention, with methods that require dedication and determination, given the Shih Tzu's proverbial stubbornness. Furthermore, this dog is highly adaptable: no matter how much space there is in the home, the essential thing is that the presence of the person it lives with and on whom it depends is never lacking.

A special coat

A long coat like this requires daily combing and brushing to remove any knots, using firm but non-aggressive movements. Dogs not involved in dog shows may be clipped, precisely because it's laborious to keep their fur in tip-top condition. Bathing should be done every two weeks with shampoo and a sheath, always checking the ears for irritation or infection. For the smoothest coat possible, straighteners and curlers are needed to protect regrowth. The hairs can be tied in a chrysanthemum shape at the center of the head, and a multicolored bow can be placed in the center to highlight the round, expressive eyes. Don't forget the teeth, which should be brushed once a week to prevent tartar and gingivitis.
